False Claims Act

The False Claims Act places liability on individuals and companies guilty of defrauding the government. Individuals, often called whistleblowers, with knowledge of fraud may use the False Claims Act to recover money for the government. Whistleblowers who come forward to expose fraud and assist in the prosecution of the case may be rewarded with a portion of any amount recovered.

These cases are important because the Department of Justice needs assistance in identifying corporate fraud and whistleblowers are a critically important part of that process. False Claims Act cases protect taxpayer dollars from fraud and may financially reward the individual prosecuting the case.
