Consumers have rights. These rights include protection from fraud and false advertising, as well as from defective products. All too often companies engage in misleading advertising or sell defective or dangerous products. It is often difficult for individual consumers to take on large corporations when these practices occur.
While corporate wrongdoing can occur in any type of industry, one recent example is that of the sports apparel industry. The burgeoning sports apparel market is rife for consumer fraud. Many companies have promoted and sold products that claim to “improve your physical performance or energy” simply by wearing a bracelet or necklace. Unfortunately for the consumer these claims are often completely false, and with each item generally costing around $35, the seller makes a hefty profit on an item that doesn’t live up to its claims.
